PROLOTHERAPY
Prolotherapy For Feet
What is Prolotherapy?
Prolotherapy, also known as proliferation therapy, is a non-surgical regenerative treatment designed to relieve chronic foot, ankle, and lower limb pain by stimulating the body's natural healing process. This therapy involves injecting a dextrose solution into weakened or damaged ligaments, tendons, or joints, encouraging tissue repair, strengthening, and reduced inflammation.
At Total Foot and Posture, our experienced podiatrists use prolotherapy injections to assist in treating conditions such as:
- Heel spurs
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Lateral ankle sprains/ ligament strains
- Loose joints
- Tendinitis such as Achilles tendinitis and Achilles tendinitis
- Joint subluxation
- Knee pain
- Osteoarthritis
Prolotherapy treatment involves your podiatrist performing injection therapy in affected ligaments, tendons and cartilage. This injection causes local inflammation, which will then trigger the body to attempt to heal the wound, depositing new collagen fibres. This new collagen will shrink, tightening and strengthening the existing ligament by up to 40% - causing it to become more stable and resulting in reduced or even eliminated pain.
Treatment varies with each patient. Partial or complete relief can be obtained after one session. However, the average person requires 4-6 treatments at a 2-4-week interval. X-rays are usually ordered before and after a course of therapy for joint conditions.
