Dry needling is used extensively at Total Foot & Posture and holistically in combination with orthotic therapy. Whilst orthotic therapy focuses on rectifying alignment, dry needling focuses on soft tissue repairs. It is used to treat pain by releasing trigger points in taught muscle bands and breaking down scar tissue. Dry needling works by promoting blood flow to a certain area, while breaking down scar tissue formation and adhesions within muscles, tendons and ligaments hence promoting repair. It is very effective when combined with orthotic therapy for treating muscle strains, trigger points, injuries to tendons and ligaments. Technique is placing a fine needle into the affected area for 15-20 minutes without moving. Dry needling can be used in multiple areas and usually requires multiple sessions for optimal results.
